SIM card activation

Probably a dumb question but will ask anyway :grimacing:

When setting up a new usb dongle with a new sim card, do you need to first activate the sim card on a regular phone to “unlock” it or no need to do this?

Thanks!

Hello @Thomas_Alibert , Saif here from the Proxidize support team, In most cases, you do not need to activate the SIM card on a regular phone before using it in a USB dongle. As long as the SIM card is properly inserted into the dongle and the dongle is compatible with the carrier, it should be able to connect to the network once powered on.
Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns and we’d be happy to help!

I’m asking because I have an error message in the dashboard (no internet/data) or even (unplugged) or (limit reached) sometimes.

I tried with multiple SIM cards, a brand new one and my personal one I’ve been using for years on my smartphone.

Here’s my setup that I’ve sourced on my own:

  • mini pc bought for this sole purpose (intel N97/8Go RAM) - Ubuntu LTS 24.04.1 (that I realize is not listed on the OS you support so it could be a problem)
  • sipolar USB HUB with 10 slots available
  • ZTE MF79U USB dongle

I found a list of troubleshooting steps on your help-center so I’ll start with that.

Happy to hear you recommendations if you have some others though

Just sent you a DM! Tanks!

Hello @Thomas_Alibert ,

I hope you’re doing well.

This is Sofia from the Customer Success team, and I’ll be taking over from my colleague Saif to assist you further.

I’ve just accessed your dashboard and attempted to access the modem’s web UI; however, it seems inaccessible. This might indicate an issue with the dongle itself.

To help us troubleshoot further, could you please:

  1. Try inserting the SIM card into a spare USB dongle to check if the issue persists.
  2. Open a support ticket via the live chat icon available under your account at https://app.proxidize.com. This will allow us to provide a more seamless and efficient troubleshooting process.

Let me know if you have any questions!
